Chavez Continues On His Winning Way
2018-07-02 by Harry Troy

Oscar Chavez has firmly cemented his place in Macau racing with another winning double on Friday night’s all weather program.

Chavez was in superb form on the night and kicked his evening off with a win on the Danny Wong prepared Grexit in the Class 4 over 1050 metres.

It was win number two for the son of the Group 1 Emirates winner All American (Aus), with both wins coming on the sand surface and both at the 1050 metre journey.

Grexit was formerly raced in Australia by well known racing personality Allan Bell and prepared by Kris Lee’s at Newcastle. The gelding won a Maiden at Wyong from his three starts in Australia before being exported to Macau. Whilst he has placed on the turf on one occasion the four year olds forte appears to be the all weather, and whilst no superstar he will pay his way in the mid range class and already has over $400,000 HKD to his name from his two wins.

Grexit’s run time of 1.02.1 was only a tick slower than the Class 2 on the night.

The Pleasant Prime from the Patrick Lee stable gave Chavez his double when he lunged late to grab race favorite Oriental Reign (Ruan Maia) right on the line win the Class 5 & 6 over 1050 metres.

Chavez who has been one the top riders on the Singapore / Malaysian racing circuit for over a decade has more than 1200 winners to his credit. He has been a welcome addition to the riding ranks in Macau and has already posted 12 winners and landed in the quinella spot 10 times from his 81 rides to date.

Macau’s latest addition to the riding ranks Japanese rider Shogo Nakano, kicked home his first winner in the enclave with a last to first win on the Sio Cheong trained River God Choi in the Class 4 over 1350 metres.

River God Choi at odds of $158.00 for the win came with a powerful burst late to beat the $1.8 race favorite Big Alloy (Ruan Maia), with Rocket Along (Eric Cheung) in third.

Nakano was the top apprentice in 2011 in the NAR (Tokyo) racing area. The twenty seven year old has more than 500 winners to his credit from 5400 race rides.

Noel “King “ Callow kept up his good average when he kicked home another winner with Denzil’s Choice in the Class 2 & 3 over 1350 metres.

Prepared by Alan Tam, Denzil’s Choice made it two wins from his past three runs and looks to have a nice future ahead of him in Macau in the Class 2 & 3 ranks, having shown ability on both the sand and the turf.

The now five year old was originally a $380,000 Aud. purchase at the 2014 Sydney Easter Sales, and won two races in Australia one at Scone and another at Nowra, when prepared by David Fieffer at Warwick Farm.
