One Hundred Percent Day For Peter Ho
2019-06-17 by Harry Troy

Peter Ho was the star of Saturday afternoon’s twilight sand program kicking home a winning treble from his three rides on the day.

Ho who has long been recognized as one of the best Chinese jockeys in Asia, was in superb form and kicked his day off with a win on the short priced Golden Conqueror in the first of the day the Class 5 & 6 over 1050 metres. Golden Conqueror a son of Rothesay (Aus) was sent out even money favorite in light of two good barrier trials and justified the short odds in leading throughout.

Ho then gave the Tony Fung prepared Mujaan the run of the race in the Class 2 over 1510 metres before zipping down the outside for a strong win over Ashkari (Shogo Nakano), with Ojala (J B Hamel) in third.

Mujaan has been a handy buy for the Happy Together Syndicate and Saturday’s victory was win number three in Macau with six placings from his 16 runs with over $800,000 HKD in prize money. One of the gelding’s placings was in the Group 3 Sand Mile when he was greatly disadvantages at the weights but ran a mighty race in finishing third behind the Class 1 horses. The former Darren Weir prepared galloper had only three runs in Victoria under the same name placing at Geelong, Ballarat and Donald all on turf but has shown a liking for the Macau sand track.

Peter Ho rounded out his day with another perfect ride on the Ricky Choi trained Golden Rose to win the Class 2 & 3 over 1050 metres. Golden Rose powered right over the top of the $1.8 favorite Loxwood (Ruan Maia), in the straight with Galaxy Giant (Stephane Ladjadj in third.

The win by Golden Rose was the first leg of a double for Ricky Choi who picked up the last of the night with Star Of Yiu Sun who scored under Ruan Maia in the Class 5 & 6 over 1050 metres.

Choi who is in his first season as trainer kicked off with a handful of runners in his yard and only saddled up his first runner back in October; but has now prepared a total of six winners and 13 placed runners from 59 starters to date. His stable numbers are steadily climbing with 15 at last count and some more expected on the next shipment.
