Nick Moore Off to a Great Start
2020-03-09 by Harry Troy

Fledgling trainer Nick Moore is off to a great start as Macau’s newest trainer with two winners over the weekends racing with Sport Genius and Hostwin Saturn.

The highly promising Sport Genius gave Moore his second winner when he made it two on end to win the Class 4 over 1050 metres (sand) on Friday night.

Sport Genius is a nice looking son of Ocean Park (NZ) that is going places and Friday’s win came hot on the heels of his easy win a fortnight back.

Hostwin Saturn was the second of Nick Moore’s winners when he was given a lovely ride by French jockey J B Hamel to win the Class 2 & 3 over 1500 metres on the turf.

Formerly trained in Australia by Gary Moore, Hostwin Saturn won a Hawkesbury Maiden and placed twice more from his 10 runs there.

The son of Stratum (Aus) turned in a super effort on debut in Macau coming from a mile back to run fourth behind the smart Gem Glory only beaten one and a quarter lengths; then had a luckless run over 1500 metres behind Oneofthegreats when he overaced badly and was posted wide throughout, but still only beaten four lengths two weeks ago.

Saturday was a different story under the tender hands of J B Hamel who got the gelding to relax beautifully in fourth spot in the run before running home strongly to the line.

Moore, who only started three horses over the weekend for two winners, has a small team of 12 horses at the moment with a couple of more on the way.

The win by Hostwin Saturn gave Hamel four winners for the weekend having ridden two winners on Friday night in White Debbie Class 2 & 3 over 1350m and Hostwin Prosperits Class 4 over 1600m; Fortune Flyer capped off Saturday for Hamel with a short head win in the Class 3 & 4 over 1500 metres.

Fausto Henrique is another that enjoyed a good weekend kicking home three winners over the two days racing.

Henrique got off to the good start on Friday with Mr. Fortune for Tony Fung in Friday’s Class 4 over 1050 metres, then followed with a win with On Purpose for Victor Chan in the Class 5 & 6 over 1350 metres.

On Saturday Henrique was seen to advantage on the Patrick Lee prepared Diamond Stellar who produced a great turn of foot down the home straight to run away with the Class 4 & 5 over 1500 metres.

A lovely looking son of Testa Rossa (Aus), Diamond Stellar made two wins on the trot following his impressive victory in a 0 to 35 contest back in January.

Henrique is currently in third spot on the rider’s table with 19 winners. Roger Yu leads the charge on 23 victories with Luis Corrales on 20 wins and J G Hamel back in fourth spot 17 winners.
