The start was delayed when 2 So True So Fake (A Calder) which had cast its left foreplate was reshod.

1 Diamond Whirlwind (C Perkins) –Lay in rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.
3 Hit The Bull (R Curatolo) – Jumped awkwardly unbalancing its rider who was almost dislodged.
7 Betorregret (Apprentice K Y Wong) –Stood flat footed when the gates were released and was then unable to maintain contact with the field despite the urgings of its rider . The rider reported that after being slow to begin the gelding did not at any stage respond to his riding and did not feel right in its action.
8 Perfect China (M Cangas) –Was slow to begin (1L).
9 Super Dan (Apprentice Y M Choi) –Was slow to begin (2L).
11 Florence Spirit (W L Ho) –The rider advised that this mount laid out for the majority of the race.

INQUIRY:
Jockey L Corrales the rider of 4 Mission Fortune was questioned regarding the tactics he employed on that gelding in particular as to why he persisted in attempting to lead when 6 Tornado Force (W T Pao) which was racing to his inside was comfortably holding him out. Jockey L Corrales explained that he had been instructed to lead and he had ridden 4 Mission Fortune on a number of occasions and that it performs best when leading. He addedand that when settled in amongst the field, the horse does not try. Jockey Corrales added that 4 Mission Fortune made unusual respiratory noises and he was surprised that it did not race in a tongue tie which was part of his training gear. Whilst noting Jockey L Corrales’ explanation, the Stewards notified him that in their opinion he had erred in not taking a sit at the girth of 6 Tornado Force when it was evident that his mount was being placed under significant pressure to try and lead that gelding. Trainer W T Lai was questioned as to why he did not apply the tongue tie to 4 Mission Fortune when it was part of that gelding’s working gear. He stated that he had been advised by the connections that 4 Mission Fortune which was having its first start for him today had previously run well without a tongue tie, however he would be applying it for its next start. The Stewards also spoke advisedly to Mr. Lai in regards to having some flexibility when issuing instructions rather than tie his rider to one set of instructions.

VETERINARY:
4 Mission Fortune (L Corrales) –A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer W T Lai was informed that he would be required to present the horse to the Veterinary Clinic for a thorough veterinary examination and to include an endoscopic examination on Sunday, 4th January 2015.
7 Betorregret (Apprentice K Y Wong) –A post race veterinary examination revealed that the horse was lame in the right foreleg and was making a abnormal respiratory noise. Trainer M C Tam was informed that the horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial and a veterinary clearance is produced.
