Race Report

RACE-3 THE HAWKES BAY RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (27)

1 Turquoise Lucky (R Stewart) –When questioned regarding his handling of 1 Turquoise Lucky rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight, and in particular, why he did not improve his position into a run that appeared on straightening. Jockey R Stewart explained that his mount, when placed under pressure too earlier in an event, fails to finish off so for this reason he went out with the plan to hold his mount up until well into the straight before placing it under full pressure where he believed it would be able to finish off the event strongly. For this reason he elected to stay behind 6 River God Choi until improving into the run to its inside after straightening. He highlighted his mount was inconvenienced near the 200 metres when unable to obtain a clear run. Jockey R Stewart’s comments was noted.
3 Golden Fifty Six (K H Yu) – Performed below market expectation. Rider reported that the gelding prefers the sand surface. A post race veterinary examination ordered by the Stewards failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Qiao Tou Win (B Yamzon) –Was marginally slow to begin. From the 500 metes until the 400 metres was held up when unable to obtain a clear run.
8 Luen Yat Command (W L Ho) –For a short distance approaching the 400 metres was unable to improve its position. Approaching the winning post had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 4 More Than Happy which shifted out under pressure.
9 Modena Creation (C Perkins) –Was slow to muster speed.
10 All Thrills (W H Lao) –Trainer K M Chin informed Stewards that with the application of blinkers they would expect the gelding to be ridden more forward today. Race wide without cover in a mid field position.
11 Auspicious Dragon (M Cangas) –Poor performance. Rider reported his mount raced greenly throughout. A post race veterinary examination ordered by the Stewards failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Prior to ‘Correct Weight Jockey R Stewart the rider of 1 Turquoise Lucky, the 5th placed getter viewed the video before deciding against lodging an objection. It was established that near the 200 metres 1 Turquoise Lucky (R Stewart) had to be steadied when tightened for room between 6 River God Choi (L Corrales) which shifted out and 4 More Than Happy (W T Pao) which shifted in. The Stewards were not satisfied that there was sufficient grounds for an objection and “Correct Weight” was declared.
