Race Report

RACE-2 THE THIRSK RATING 55-0 (CLASS 4,5&6) 1050 METRES (80)

2 Cheerful Fish (C F Wong) – Rider could offer no real explanation for its disappointing performance today other than that in his opinion it prefers racing on a surface with a bit more give. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Modena Favorite (W T Pao) –Raced wide without cover and hung out rounding the home turn.
4 Nam Kee's Treasure (W L Ho) –Approaching the 800 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to heels. Approaching the 200 metres when racing tight to the inside of 7 Yu Long Glory had to be checked when disappointed for a run between that gelding and 13 Brave Horse where there was insufficient room.
6 Wan Shi Sheng Yi (Apprentice Y M Choi) –Was unruly in the mounting yard dislodging its rider. Was a late scratching by the order of the Stewards at 2:28pm. Rider Y M Choi was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and stood down from his remaining engagements today.
7 Yu Long Glory (R Stewart) –Near the 400 metres raced tight to the inside of 1 Tuhao Power.
9 River Dream (K W Leong) –Was slow to begin and shifted out abruptly losing further ground.
11 Lucky And Fortune (R Curatolo) –Raced wide without cover.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Jockey W H Lao the rider of 1 Tuhao Power pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 7 Yu Long Glory (R Stewart), resulting in 7 Yu Long Glory losing its rightful running and having to be checked. In laying the charge the Stewards acknowledged that just prior to the incident 7 Yu Long Glory had been brushed by 4 Nam Kee's Treasure (W L Ho). Jockey W H Lao’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering the meetings of 11th and 12th December 2015. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Lao’s good record, his guilty plea and other mitigating circumstances. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

Jockey K W Leong the rider of 9 River Dream was found guilty of a charge under MJC Rule 132 (iii) in that from passing the 400 metres to the top of the straight he failed to attempt to improve his position and that from the top of the straight until near the 250 metres he failed to use sufficient vigour when placing his mount under pressure, thereby failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. Jockey K W Leong’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of six racemeetings covering the meetings of 11th & 12th December 2015 and 3rd, 8th, 15th & 16th January 2016. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account that this was Jockey Leong’s third offence under this rule, his plea and other mitigating circumstances. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
