Race Report

RACE-4 THE PRESTON RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1350 METRES (112)

This race was rescheduled to start at 9:40pm and all remaining races were put back 5 minutes.

2 Holy Ascension (Apprentice Y M Choi) –Prior to the race the connections advised that they will attempt lead on the gelding tonight. Was unable to muster sufficient speed and settled in 4th position. Raced wide without cover.
6 Strong Alloy (H Lam) –Raced very keenly through the early and middle stages.
8 My Cup Of Tea (W T Pao) –Was slightly slow to begin.
11 Galaxy Dragon (M Cangas) –Jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and made contact 1 Gold Selection which shifted out slightly. Rider explained that the gelding which performed below market expectations never travelled well throughout the race and he could offer no real explanation.
12 Iron Alloy (C F Wong) –When questioned as to why he persisted in pushing his mount to try and lead rather than steady at some point in the middle stages, Jockey C F Wong explained that he was instructed to lead because his mount was one paced. He stated that he tried to steady his mount in the early stages however was unable to do so and then in the back straight, he was satisfied to push the gelding in an attempt to followl along his instructions. 12 Iron Alloy was a beaten horse upon straightening. The Stewards notified C F Wong that his ride lacked judgment that he must make a genuine effort to give his mount a respite at some point during the race so that it may then finish the race off strongly. He was further advised that he would be expected to show far more initiative in similar circumstances in future.
