Race Report

RACE-3 PENANG TURF CLUB GOODWILL CUP RATING 70-50 (CLASS 3) 1000 METRES (141)

2 Hostwin Valentino (L Corrales) –Rider L Corrales could not provide any real excuse for the gelding disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Rayden (C F Wong) – Jumped away awkwardly resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced.
8 Impeccable Genius (H Lam) – Bounded in the air when the gates were released and lost ground.
10 The Riddle (W T Pao) – Escaped from its handler when in the saddling area. Was examined by the veterinary surgeon who reported that 10 The Riddle sustained a laceration to its right hind leg and was unfit to run. Acting on this advice Stewards ordered the withdrawal of 10 The Riddle at 3:02pm. Trainer K H Leong was informed that it will not be permitted to race for 11 days until a veterinary clearance is produced.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Prior to correct weight W L Ho rider of 1 Yanson, 4th placegetter, viewed the Stewards patrol videos before lodging an objection against 7 I Told You So (Apprentice K Y Wong) being declared the 3rd placegetter on the grounds of interference near the 700 metres. As the interference was attributed to 4 Happy Cash (L Salles), the protest was dismissed and correct weight was declared.

At a later inquiry L Salles rider of 4 Happy Cash, pleaded guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provision of MJC Rule 132 (i) in that at the 600 metres he permitted his mount to shift in taking 9 Power Sequalo (M Cangas) in onto 7 I Told You So (Apprentice K Y Wong) which was tightened onto 1 Yanson (W L Ho) which lost its rightful running and to be restrained. Jockey L Salles had his license to ride in races suspended for a period of three race meetings being the 19th, 20th and 27th February 2016. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea and poor careless riding record, the severity of the interference and the degree of carelessness. He was advised his Right of the Appeal.
