Race Report

RACE-3 SJM ec card CUP (LISBOA CHALLENGE FINAL) (LISTED RACE) (TURF) 3&4YO (3&4 YEAR OLDS) 1500 METRES (226)

1 Brave Flying Hawk (G Lerena) - Jump away awkwardly. Raced ungenerously at the turn near the 1200 metres and had to be steadied off heels.
2 So Sweet (K C Leung) – Shortly after the start was inconvenienced when tightened for room between 3 Mission Gdragon (W L Ho) and 11 Lucky And Healthy (J Moreira) which shifted in.
4 Tuhao Power (B Yamzon) – Disappointing performance. Rider B Yamzon reported the gelding never handled today’s heavy track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Felizmaster (C F Chan) – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
6 Northern Lightning (L Corrales) - Dipped near the 400 metres.

7 River Ground (L Salles) – Raced very wide without cover throughout.
8 Macau Lightning (A Calder) – Was marginally slow to begin. Checked near the 400 metres. Performed below market expectations. The rider A Calder reported that he had got further back than anticipated, and then after meeting interference the gelding did not respond from thereon in. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality and a post race swab sample was taken for analysis.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
W Smith the rider of 12 Hopefully Tomorrow was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under the provisions of MJC Rule 132(i) the careless riding being that passing the 400 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of 8 Macau Lightning (A Calder) resulting in that gelding being steadied and taken inwards to avoid the heels of 12 Hopefully Tomorrow. This resulted in 5 Felizmaster (C F Chan) becoming unbalanced when tightened for room between 8 Macau Lightning and 6 Northern Lightning (L Corrales), losing its rightful running and having to be checked. Jockey W Smith had his license to ride in races suspended for two race meetings being the 30th April and 6th May 2016. In arriving for penalty, Stewards took into account his good riding record both in Macau and overseas, the degree of carelessness which the Stewards believed was in the low range and the severity of the interference. He was advised his right of appeal.
