Race Report

RACE-4 SJM MACAU DERBY (TRIPLE CROWN - 2ND LEG) (GROUP 1) (TURF) 4YO 1800 METRES (227)

1 Sandtop (W L Ho) - On jumping away became unbalanced after being brushed by 8 Basement (R B Woodworth) which shifted out. Run out in the straight on several occasions when struck with the whip.
2 Bobo So Cute (L Salles) – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
3 Kelowna Star (O Doleuze) – Disappointing performance. The rider O Doleuze reported that the gelding never travelled throughout the event however could offer no real excuse for the gelding’s performance today. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Yang Jiang Star (C Perkins) – After passing the 800 m became unbalanced when brushed by 2 Bobo So Cute (L Salles) which was racing tight to that geldings outside. Jockey L Salles was reprimanded and was notified that he must not put unnecessary pressure on other runners.
6 One Belt One Road (N Callan) – Near the 1000 metres was brushed on a number of occasions by 10 Perfect Alloy (H Lam) which shifted out.
9 Macau Spring (W Smith) – Was standing awkwardly when the gates were released then threw its head up on jumping away and lost ground.
10 Perfect Alloy (H Lam) – Shifted out in the straight under riding. Jockey H Lam was notified that he must stop riding and straighten his mount when in similar circumstance in future.
12 Grand Double Win (K C Leung) – Jumped away awkwardly.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
N Callan, the rider of 6 One Belt One Road pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that leaving the straight on the first occasion he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent his mount from shifting in, resulting in 4 Yang Jiang Star (C Perkins) being tightened for room for approximately six strides and having to be restrained. N Callan was suspended from riding in races for one Macau race day being on 22nd April 2016 and was issued a fined of HK$10,000. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into account N Callan’s guilty plea, his record and up coming race meetings, the level of carelessness and degree of interference. He was advised of his right of appeal.
