Race Report

RACE-5 MACAU HONG KONG TROPHY (GROUP 1) (TURF) RATING 125-95 (CLASS 1) 1500 METRES (228)

1 Divine Calling (O Doleuze)- Raced wide without cover before obtaining a position passing the 800 metres. Below market expectations. Rider O Doleuze reported that the gelding had travelled well throughout the event however never let down in the straight as he expected.
4 The Alfonso (L Corrales)- Over raced near the 1200 metres had to be steadied off the heels of 8 River Bobo (L Salles). Was held up for some distance rounding the home turn.
5 All You Wish (J Moreira)- The rider J Moreira reported that the gelding, which performed below market expectations, did not handle today’s track conditions and finished the race off only fairly.
6 Gurus Dream (N Callan)- Approaching the 1100 metres had to be checked off the heels of 2 Super Lifeline (G Lerena) which was being restrained by its rider, after being taken outwards by 8 River Bobo which had difficulty negotiating the turn. During this incident rider N Callan became unbalanced.
8 River Bobo (L Salles)- On jumping away was tightened for room between 10 Gold Alloy (H Lam) which shifted out and 6 Gurus Dream (N Callan) which shifted in abruptly before being straightened.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Prior to correct weight Stewards reviewed the official patrol video to establish if there were grounds to lodge an objection on behalf the connections of 2 Super Lifeline (G Lerena), 6 Gurus Dream (N Callan) and 5 All You Wish (J Moreira) against 4 The Alfonso (L Corrales) second place getter. Stewards were not satisfied that, bearing in mind that the respective margins between those horses that there was sufficient grounds for an objection and correct weight was declared.
At a subsequent inquiry L Corrales pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding in that shortly after straightening he shifted his mount outwards when not clear of 2 Super Lifeline which was taken out into the running of 6 Gurus Dream which was in turn taken out across the running of 5 All You Wish which was checked to avoid that gelding’s heels. L Corrales had his license to ride in races suspended for a total of 2 racemeetings on 22nd and 30th April 2016. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration L Corrales’ guilty plea, his riding record, the level of carelessness and degree of interference. He was advised of his right of appeal.
