RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards questioned Jockey W L Ho the rider of 4 Total Management, regarding the tactics he adopted throughout the event. He advised he had been instructed to keep his mount balanced throughout the race and have it travel where it was comfortable and to put his mount under pressure rounding the home turn and fully in the straight. Jockey W L Ho added his mount had a history of leg problems and would be better suited on a track which is rain affected and, it did not appreciate today’s firm track and was never comfortable in its action. For this reason he did not ride his mount out over the final 600 metres of the event as he would normally do. Trainer K S Cheong confirmed the instructions and advised Stewards that 4 Total Management was slightly lame when examined by the Veterinary Surgeon on a trot up on Saturday, 14th May morning and did in fact have to be re vetted again yesterday afternoon and was subsequently cleared to race. He further advised that it has a history of leg problems demonstrated by the fact that it usually has a period of four weeks between its races.
A post race veterinary examination 4 Total Management revealed that it was lame in the right foreleg. In all the circumstances, the Stewards took no action against W L Ho, however he was reminded of his obligation to rider all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query and that he is to report any concerns he may have with them immediately after the race.
Trainer K S Cheong was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial, at which time it must be competitive and a veterinary clearance is produced.
