Race Report

RACE-3 THE NEW ORLEANS RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1350 METRES (263)

1 Chinese Dream (B Yamzon) –Which had been restless in its barrier, jumped away awkwardly. Shortly after the start became unbalanced after being bumped by 2 Gauteng on two separate occasions. Rider reported was unable to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. A swab sample was taken from the gelding for analysis.
2 Gauteng (W H Lao) –Shortly after the start was brushed by 7 The Riddle and taken inwards making contact with 1 Chinese Dream. Was then unbalanced for a number of strides when buffeted between 1 Chinese Dream and 7 The Riddle. Was inconvenienced near the 900 metres by 7 The Riddle which broke down.
4 My Pony (A Aucharuz) –Was taken wider on the course near the 900 metres as a result of 7 The Riddle breaking down.
5 River Ground (L Salles) –Stood flat footed when the gates were released losing considerable ground (5L). Trainer S H Cheong was notified that 5 River Ground will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. Had a tendency to lay out in the straight.
6 Victory Megastar (L Corrales) –Raced very keenly through the early and middle stages.
7 The Riddle (W L Ho) –Broke down in the back straight before being eased out of the race. Was subsequently euthanased.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the “Enquiry Sign” was semaphored to allow the Stewards the opportunity to review the video patrol of the start to ascertain whether 5 River Ground (L Salles) was afforded a fair start. It was established that when the start was effected 5 River Ground (L Salles) stood flat footed and lost considerable ground.
