Race Report

RACE-4 THE RUINAS DE SANTA PAULO RATING 70+ (CLASS 1&2) 1200 METRES (4)

The Stewards gave permission for W H Lao the rider of 13 Pacers Bahhare to ride the gelding at 120lbs as there were no other suitable riders available at the weight. At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey W H Lao was fined the sum of HK$2000 under MJC Rule 122 (iii) for accepting a ride for which he was overweight.

1 Wonder Mossman (H Lam) –Was bumped by 3 The Alfonso on jumping away. Over raced in the early and middle stages.
2 River Bobo (L Corrales) – Leaving the 200 metres laid out under pressure.
6 Healthy Life (A Aucharuz) –Was tightened for room shortly after the start between 2 River Bobo and 7 Yanson.
9 Allez Eagle (A Calder) –Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
10 Sweet Korean (R Curatolo) –Hung out for a short distance after the start despite the efforts of its rider.
11 Oh So Easy (K K Lai) –Raced wide without cover for the majority. Approaching the 800 metres commenced to over race for a considerable distance. Jockey K K Lai explained to the Stewards that leaving the 800 metres he attempted to restrain 11 Oh So Easy in order to obtain a position with cover behind 1 Wonder Mossman. He added that due to his mount over racing he was unable to do so. He further added he then allowed the gelding to race wide without cover where it was racing comfortably. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation.
13 Pacers Bahhare (W H Lao) –Poor performance. Jockey W H Lao explained that 13 Pacers Bahhare never travelled comfortably at any stage of the race despite his urgings. He added he had concerns with the gelding’s action in the home straight and as a result he eased 13 Pacers Bahhare out of the race at the 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer K S Wong was informed that he would be required to present the horse for a full veterinary examination on Sunday, 25 September 2016. In addition 13 Pacers Bahhare will not be permitted to race for 11 days due to its unsatisfactory performance and until it has performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
