Race Report

RACE-2 THE HAWKES BAY RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1050 METRES (20)

2 True Brother (L Salles)- Jumped awkwardly.
3 Yummy Yummy (K H Yu) – Was slow into stride.
6 Ideal Smart Horse (M Cangas) - Was declared a late scratching at 7:37pm when the gelding refused to load into the barriers. Trainer K M Chin was informed that 6 Ideal Smart Horse will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
7 Peace Get Lucky (C F Chan) – Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.
9 Matrix Miracle (K K Lai) – Hung in under pressure in the home straight. Rider reported his mount raced greenly throughout.
12 Capital Whirlwind (W Smith)- Stood flat footed at the start and lost considerable ground. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The “Enquiry Sign” was semaphored following the running of the race to allow the Stewards to review the official patrol film of the start to determine whether 12 Capital Whirlwind (W Smith) had been afforded a fair start. It was established that as the start was effected 12 Capital Whirlwind stood flat footed of its own accord and lost significant ground at the start. Under the circumstances, 12 Capital Whirlwind was deemed a starter. Trainer K S Cheong was informed that 12 Capital Whirlwind will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
