Race Report

RACE-4 THE TAPANUI RATING SPECIAL (SPECIAL) 1350 METRES (22)
This race was rescheduled to start at 8:40pm.

1 Eclair Journey (W Smith) –Raced keenly in the early stages. Was held up and unable to improve rounding the home turn. Leaving the 300 metres was checked when attempting a narrow run between 6 Desi Star and 8 Surdmaster which hung in under pressure. As Stewards could not be satisfied that there was a full run between 6 Desi Star and 8 Surdmaster, no further action was taken other than to advise all riders to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
2 Nickel Alloy (H Lam) –Raced wide leaving the 600 metres. Rider reported that his mount was one paced in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Easy Thai (A Calder) –Raced fiercely during the early and middle stages.
4 Forever Buddies (L Salles) –Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race.
8 Surdmaster (R Curatolo) –Raced keenly during the middle stages.
9 Diamond Brilliant (W L Ho) –Knuckled on jumping away. Was then tightened for room shortly after the start between 6 Desi Star and 8 Surdmaster which shifted in and away from 4 Forever Buddies. Near the 1100 metres was steadied away from the heels of 11 River Dream which was taken out by 3 Easy Thai which when over racing changed lead legs and shifted out. In all the circumstances, the Stewards could not attribute blame to anyone rider and no further action was taken. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was lame in the left foreleg. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary clearance is produced.
10 Alway Better (K K Lai) –Near the 150 metres shifted in under pressure, baulked at the running rail and became unbalanced for a short distance.
11 River Dream (K H Yu) –Bumped on jumping away by 7 Valiant Fella which was taken in by 2 Nickel Alloy. Rider reported that his mount resented the kick back throughout the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
