Race Report

RACE-4 THE TE AROHA RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1100 METRES (28)

2 Cheerful Fish (L Corrales) –Hung out for the majority of the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed it was lame in the right foreleg. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that 2 Cheerful Fish will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary clearance is produced.
3 Sink The Pink (A Calder) –Shortly after the start was steadied and tightened for room between 4 Gem Fighter which shifted in and 1 Happy Alloy which was taken out by 13 Peace Get Lucky. Leaving the 800 metres was steadied momentarily when tightened for room by 10 China Cheers which shifted in slightly. Jockey W H Lao was reprimanded and advised that he should be fully clear before shifting ground in future. Near the 600 metres was held up and unable to improve when awkwardly placed on the heels of 10 China Cheers.
4 Gem Fighter (K K Lai) –Rider was reminded of his obligations that when his mounts are out of contention, he would be expected to put the whip away and ride his mounts out hands and heels to the line.
6 Beauty Of Victory (L Salles) –Rider reported that his mount travelled well throughout, however was one paced in the straight. He added he advised the trainer that 6 Beauty Of Victory maybe better suited to races of a lower class. A swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
7 Rider Navigator (W Smith) –Was slow to begin. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on 7 Rider Navigator in particular the reasons for racing wide, Jockey W Smith explained that he was instructed to have the gelding travel where it was comfortable. He added that in the early stages he was caught racing three wide, however as 7 Rider Navigator was travelling comfortably he elected to maintain that position in accordance to comply with his instructions. He explained that leaving the 500 metres when improving his position, the gelding blundered and became unbalanced of its own accord and in the straight did not respond to his riding. In all the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation.
9 Strong Alloy (B Yamzon) –Hung out from the 900 metres and was caught racing wide without cover. Rider reported that his mount hung out from the 900 metres placing him at a disadvantage. He added in that the straight when placed under pressure 9 Strong Alloy failed to run on and was disappointing. Trainer K C Chong was informed that a warning had been placed on 9 Strong Alloy for its racing manners and that he would be required to present the gelding Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 16 October 2016.
10 China Cheers (W H Lao) –Jockey W H Lao was reprimanded for dropping his whip near the 300 metres. In arriving at this decision, the Stewards took into account his good record in regards to this offence.
