Race Report

RACE-2 THE RANGITIKEI RATING 45-15 (CLASS 4&5) 1600 METRES (38)

1 Road To Victory (C Perkins) –Poor performance. Rider reported that his mount never travelled any stage of the race and was at a loss to explain the poor performance tonight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Charity Group (L Corrales) – Jumped awkwardly and shifted out making heavy contact with 6 Valiant Fella. Raced wide rounding the home turn.
3 Golden Commandment (W H Lao) –Was slow to begin. Raced wide without cover throughout. Poor performance, beaten in excess of 34 lengths. Rider reported that his mount never travelled at any stage of the race and was a beaten horse from the 800 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainers K C Tse/C Marshall were informed that 3 Golden Commandment will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed in an official Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
6 Valiant Fella (Y M Choi) –Bumped by 2 Charity Group on jumping away. When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on 6 Valiant Fella, in particular the reason for the gelding racing in a forward position tonight, Jockey Y M Choi explained that he was instructed to have the gelding in a forward position and to avoid the kickback if possible. He added that at the gelding’s most recent start on 7th October where he was the rider, he received the same instructions, however was unable to fulfill his instructions due to being crossed by runners shortly after the start. Trainer Pat Lee confirmed the instructions and advised they were consistent to those given at the gelding’s most recent starts. The Stewards noted both their explanations.
7 General's Steed (K H Yu) –When questioned regarding his riding from the top of the home straight until the 200 metres Jockey K H Yu explained that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout the race and upon entering the home straight became unbalanced. He added his mount continued to hang out until the 200 metres where he was able to pull the whip through to his left hand, however when placed under pressure 7 General's Steed failed to respond to his riding and did not finish the race off as expected. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation, however he was reminded of his obligations to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.
11 Gold On (K W Leong) –Jumped awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination revealed that it was lame in the right foreleg. Trainers K C Tse/C Marshall were informed that 11 Gold On will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary certificate is produced and in view that it was beaten in excess of 33 lengths, it must perform in an official Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again.
12 Cargo Money (M Cangas) –Stood flat footed and lost significant ground.
