Race Report

RACE-5 THE COUNTIES RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1500 METRES (41)

1 Chairman's Vote (C F Chan) –Rider reported that his mount travelled well until the 800 metres however was a beaten horse from that point on. He added in his opinion carrying top weight of 133lbs may have contributed to the disappointing performance tonight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainers K C Tse/C Marshall were informed that the gelding which had been beaten in excess of 30 lengths will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
3 Pacers Bahhare (A Aucharuz) –Knuckled on jumping, then shifted in and bumped 10 Red Dragon.
5 My Dream (L Salles) –Was resaddled behind the barriers.
7 Oh So Simple (W H Lao) –Raced wide without cover throughout. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
8 Ashkari (W Smith) –Was slow to begin.
9 Grand Double Win (C Perkins) –Rounding the home turn was checked by its rider when awkwardly placed on the heels of 4 Never See Through.
10 Red Dragon (K K Lai) –Bumped by 3 Pacers Bahhare on jumping away. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
11 Mackinac Island (A Calder) –Performed below market expectations. Rider reported he obtained a good position behind the speed and that his mount travelled well until near the 600 metres where it came under pressure. He added that his mount failed to respond to his riding in the straight and failed to finish off as expected. He further added that as the gelding was having its first start since the 16th of July 2016, in his opinion 11 Mackinac Island will benefit in fitness from tonight’s race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
12 Speed Of King (L Corrales) – Performed below market expectations. Rider stated that in his opinion his mount resented the kickback in tonight’s race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Shortly after the start 11 Mackinac Island (A Calder), 12 Speed Of King (L Corrales) and 9 Grand Double Win (C Perkins) were buffeted and became unbalanced for a short distance when tightened between 4 Never See Through (M Cangas) and 3 Pacers Bahhare (A Aucharuz) which after making contact with 10 Red Dragon (K K Lai) shifted out. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards could not attribute blame to anyone rider and no further action was taken.
