Race Report

RACE-1 THE STOKE RATING MAIDEN 1050 METRES (109)

3 Lucky Gladiator (W L Ho) –Leaving the 50 metres baulked when 6 Full Of Luck shifted in under pressure. Checked approaching the winning post.
4 Her Time (R Maia) –Raced wide without cover throughout.
5 Capital Whirlwind (W Smith) –Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer K S Cheong was informed that gelding will not be permitted to race to race for 11 days and until it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial. Leaving the 50 metres shifted in and was momentarily steadied off the heels of 7 There You'll Be.
6 Full Of Luck (M Wepner) –Knuckled on jumping away. Was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards to review the official patrol video of the concluding stages of the race to ascertain whether 3 Lucky Gladiator (W L Ho) which was placed 4th by the Judge had grounds for an objection against 6 Full Of Luck (M Wepner) which was placed 3rd by the Judge. It was established that over the concluding stages 6 Full Of Luck shifted in under pressure when insufficiently clear of 3 Lucky Gladiator which had to be checked. After considering all the circumstances, in particular the beaten margin and the close proximity to the finish, Stewards did not proceed any further. At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey M Wepner pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that over the concluding stages whilst riding his mount along, he permitted 6 Full Of Luck to shift in when insufficiently clear of 3 Lucky Gladiator which had to be checked. Jockey M Wepner’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings to cover the meetings of 21st January and 4th February 2017. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey M Wepner’s guilty plea, the degree of the interference and his riding record. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
