Race Report

RACE-5 THE BURY RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1500 METRES (119)

As there were no other rider available at the weight, the Stewards gave permission for C F Chan to ride 12 Best Fortune at 120lbs replacing Jockey K K Lai who had been injured and stood down.

1 Obrigado Mais (W Smith) –From the 200 metres until the 150 metres raced in restricted room to the inside of 7 Tuhao Power which shifted in. After considering all of the circumstances Jockey L Salles the rider of 7 Tuhao Power was issued with a severe reprimand and advised that he is to ensure he is sufficiently clear of runners when shifting ground at all times.
2 Grand Double Win (R Curatolo) –The connections informed the Stewards that from the wide draw the jockey would be instructed to go back at the start and obtain a position closer to the rail. Was ridden in a rearward position.
6 Chromium Alloy (H Lam) –Shortly after the start was eased back and across other runners to obtain a position closer to the rail.
8 Wonder Holy (R Maia) –Raced wide without cover throughout. The Stewards questioned Jockey R Maia as to the reasons he shifted out leaving the 400 metres resulting in the gelding making the turn very wide. Jockey Maia explained that leaving 400 metres he was concerned that he may have been causing interference to another runner back to his inside so he elected to shift wider on the track and relieve the pressure. After considering all of the circumstances the Stewards noted his explanation, however advised him to always ride his mounts in a manner that leaves no room for query. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 Eclair Journey (A Calder) –Inclined to over race in the middle stages.
12 Best Fortune (C F Chan) – A post race veterinary examination revealed that it was lame in the right hind leg. Trainer K S Wong was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it a veterinary clearance is produced.
