Race Report

RACE-6 THE KANPUR RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (212)

3 Bingo Fantasy (A Calder) –Leaving the 150 metres was disappointed for a run to the inside of 1 Horse Of The Day and was then held up and unable to establish clear running until 100 metres. Cast its left fore plate during the run.
5 Luenya Elegant (L Salles) –Near the 900 metres after shifting out to improve bumped with 7 Capital Protector. A short distance later was then bumped by 7 Capital Protector and was buffeted for a short distance between 1 Horse Of The Day and 7 Capital Protector and had to be checked near the 800 metres.
6 Mackinac Island (C Perkins) –Near the 1000 metres had to be steadied away from the heels of 7 Capital Protector which shifted out and away from 5 Luenya Elegant.
7 Capital Protector (W Smith) –Near the 900 metres was buffeted for a short distance between 10 River Colour and 5 Luenya Elegant which shifted out. A short distance later then bumped 5 Luenya Elegant.
9 Fortune Master (R Curatolo) – Was slow to begin. Raced wide without cover from the 800 metres.
11 Paulson (W L Ho) –Checked leaving the 1300 metres. Near the 1000 metres had to be steadied when tightened for room between 3 Bingo Fantasy which shifted out slightly and 9 Fortune Master which shifted in slightly.
12 Double Heaven (M Wepner) –Was slow to begin.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into a racing incident near the 1300 metres where 11 Paulson was checked. Evidence was taken from Jockeys M Wepner the rider of 12 Double Heaven, W L Ho the rider of 11 Paulson and R Curatolo the rider of 9 Fortune Master. Jockey R Curatolo the rider of 9 Fortune Master was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the 1300 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 11 Paulson which was tightened for room and had to be checked. Jockey R Curatolo’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 3 racemeetings and the Stewards on this occasion deferred this to take effect for the meetings of 28th April and 5th & 12th May 2017. In determining to defer the suspension, the Stewards took into account the current number of injured riders. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards also took into account his plea, his record in that he has just resumed riding from a suspension and the circumstances of the incident. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.

The Stewards inquired into a racing incident from the 900 metres to the turn near the 800 metres.
Evidence was taken from Jockeys L Salles the rider of 5 Luenya Elegant, W Smith the rider of 7 Capital Protector and K W Leong the rider of 10 River Colour. It was established that near the 900 metres, 5 Luenya Elegant shifted out away from a position on the rails and made contact with 7 Capital Protector which in turn shifted out and made contact with 10 River Colour. A short distance later 7 Capital Protector then shifted back in and made contact with 5 Luenya Elegant which was buffeted for room between 1 Horse Of The Day and 7 Capital Protector and had to be checked near the 800 metres. After considering all the circumstances the Stewards could not attribute blame to anyone rider and took no further action other than to advise all riders to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey L Salles pleaded not guilty to a charge of misconduct under MJC Rule 61 (ii) (b). The Stewards adjourned the inquiry to date and time to be fixed.
