Race Report

RACE-5 THE DIAMOND HILL RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1510 METRES (223)

1 Prosperity Star (W L Ho) –Leaving the 500 metres was inclined to lay in and continued to do so for the remainder of the race.
3 Horse Of The Day (Apprentice K Leung) –Leaving the 1500 metres had to be steadied.
5 Jade Elite (M Cangas) –Leaving the 1500 metres had to be steadied. Raced wide without cover throughout.
6 Mighty Alloy (H Lam) – Poor performance. Rider reported that his mount traveled well during the early and middle stages, however leaving the 600 metres failed to respond to his riding and did not finish the race off as expected. He further added that on pulling up he heard his mount make an abnormal respiratory noise. .A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer M C Tam was informed that he would be required to present to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Saturday, 15th April 2017.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the 1500 metres. Evidence was taken from Apprentice K Leung the rider of 3 Horse of The Day, Jockey M Cangas the rider of 5 Jade Elite and Jockey W L Ho the rider of 1 Prosperity Star. It was established that leaving the 1500 metres 1 Prosperity Star when being ridden along was inclined to lay in and shifted in when not fully clear of 5 Jade Elite which then shifted in and away resulting in 3 Horse Of The Day having to be steadied. After considering all of the circumstances the Stewards issued Jockey W L Ho the rider of 1 Prosperity Star with a severe reprimand and advised him that in their opinion he should have made a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting in at that point of the race.
