Race Report

RACE-1 THE ECUADOR RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1200 METRES (231)
1 River Pearl (Apprentice S Meneanen) –Jumped awkwardly. Shortly after the start was inclined to hang out and continued to do so for the majority of the race. In the home straight hung out abruptly when under pressure resulting in its rider Apprentice S Meneanen not being able to fully test his mount. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that 1 River Pearl will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
4 Turquoise Lucky (K H Yu) –Reared as the start was effected.
5 China Cheers (R Maia) –Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost ground.
7 Great Tiger (M Wepner) –Leaving the 250 metres was eased out of the race and near the 200 metres shifted in abruptly, struck the running rail dislodging Jockey M Wepner. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had suffered an extensive bleeding attack. Acting on veterinary advice and taking into account the severity of the incident, the Stewards informed Trainer S Chow that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 48 days and will not be permitted to exercise on the main track for a period of 1 month. In addition, 7 Great Tiger will not be permitted to race again, until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial on at least two occasions and a veterinary clearance is produced. Jockey M Wepner was examined by the Club’s Medical Officer and passed fit to continue riding.
8 Explosive Blast (M Cangas) –Inconvenienced shortly after the start by 1 River Pearl which commenced to hang out.
9 Simple Mind (C F Chan) –Was slow into stride. Near the 200 metres had to be steadied to avoid 7 Great Tiger which shifted in abruptly. Poor performance. Rider reported that his mount did not appreciate today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
