Race Report

RACE-1 THE DAVAO RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1350 METRES (275)

3 Nata Way (A Calder) – Trainer P Leyshan was informed that in view of its barrier manners, the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards on at least one occasion in an official Barrier Trial. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Eangle Commander (M Wepner) –When questioned regarding his riding style on 4 Eangle Commander, Jockey M Wepner explained that when his mount commenced to lay in at the top the straight, he was obliged to pull his whip through to his left hand and he had his elbow slightly raised to keep the horse on a straight course. The Stewards noted his explanation.
5 Fortune Master (A Aucharuz) –Was slow into stride.
8 Crowning Mission (W Smith) – A post race veterinary examination of the gelding revealed the presence of blood in its near side nostril. Trainer K S Cheong was informed that before 8 Crowning Mission races again, a veterinary clearance must be produced.
11 River God Choi (K H Yu) -About the 1100 metres got its head up and raced ungenerously. A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding had suffered a bleeding attack. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that the stand down period applies and before being permitted to race again, 11 River God Choi will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial and a veterinary clearance must be produced.
12 River Dream (C F Chan) –Jockey C F Chan was fined the sum of HK$500 for having dropped his whip near the 200 metres. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account the mitigating circumstances and Jockey Chan’s record.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the “Enquiry” sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards to review the video patrol of the start to establish whether 3 Nata Way (A Calder) had been afforded a fair start. The patrol film was reviewed and evidence was taken from the rider A Calder. It was established that 3 Nata Way which was restless in the gates, missed the start and lost considerable ground. The Stewards were satisfied that 3 Nata Way had not been denied a fair start and correct weight was declared.
