Race Report

RACE-3 THE CEBU RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1050 METRES (277)

1 Cheerful Fish (W L Ho) – Rider reported after the race that his mount had cast both front plates during the running of the race. A post race veterinary examination confirmed the gelding had cast both front plates but failed to reveal any other significant abnormality.
2 A Perfect Gift (L Corrales) -Made the home turn wide. When questioned, Jockey L Corrales explained that he was instructed to get a good jump and go forward and ride a positive race. He explained that after beginning well and racing in the lead, he was unable to cross runners to his inside. He was then obliged to race five wide. He further added that at approximately the 800 metre turn his mount became unbalanced and from that point on began to lose ground despite his urgings. In the straight he placed the horse under full pressure but it failed to respond and he was very disappointed with its efforts today. Trainer J Lau confirmed these instructions and said he was very disappointed with the performance of the horse today. He added that although the 1000 metres may have been short of its preferred distance he still expected the horse to race well today. Stewards noted their explanations and informed Mr. Lau that if he becomes aware of anything that may have affected the horse’s performance today, he must report it to the Stewards.
5 Tuhao Power (R Curatolo) –Was slow to begin. When questioned regarding the start, Jockey R Curatolo explained that the horse jumped awkwardly and threw its head up and he then became unbalanced and fell back in the saddle. He added shortly after regaining his balance, he then rode the horse along to be in a forward position. Stewards noted his explanations.
10 Luenya Elegant (M Wepner) – A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was lame in the right foreleg. Trainer W T Lai was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary clearance is produced.
