Race Report

RACE-1 THE TETRARCH RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1510 METRES (313)

4 Best Double (W Smith) –Performed below market expectations. Jockey W Smith reported that he had a good jump and travelled well in 2nd position to the home turn where he commenced to place the horse under pressure, however it failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion was disappointing. Trainer M C Tam could offer no real explanation for the gelding’s disappointing performance tonight other than that the gelding had failed to run on. He said its last two runs had been good and that he was expecting a similar performance tonight. Mr. Tam was informed that if he becomes aware of anything amiss with the gelding that could have affected its performance, he is to report this to the Stewards. A swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Big Success (R Maia) –Prior to the start threw its head up and was then slowly away. When questioned regarding his ride on 5 Big Success, Jockey R Maia stated that he was given no specific instructions tonight other than to ride the gelding in a similar manner as he had done at its previous two starts. He said that with his mount throwing its head prior to the start and then beginning slowly, he had got further back than anticipated. When placed under pressure in the early and middle stages and then in the home straight his mount failed to respond and was disappointing. Trainer S H Cheong stated that he was could offer no reason tonight for 5 Big Success missing the start as it normally begins well. He added that he had given the gelding a good chance and had informed the connections accordingly. The Stewards noted their explanations, however informed Trainer S H Cheong that a warning had been placed against 5 Big Success, and should the gelding continue to behave in this manner at its starts, further action may be taken. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
