Race Report

RACE-3 THE CIGAR (SAND) RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1050 METRES (329)

1 Everything Good (Y M Choi) –About the 150 metres shifted out abruptly when struck with the whip.
3 The Pirate King (L Corrales) –Race wide from the 500 metres to the home turn. When questioned Jockey L Corrales explained that the reason he was seen to be racing wide was due to his mount shying away from a flock of birds during this stage of the race.
8 Cool Brother (C F Chan) –Acting on veterinary advice that 8 Cool Brother was lame in the right foreleg, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 4:24pm. Trainer J Lau was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until a veterinary clearance is produced.
9 Bring Me Speed (W Smith) –Was slow to begin.
10 Highspot (A Calder) –The Stewards questioned both Jockey A Calder and Trainer G Allendorf. Trainer G Allendorf explained that 10 Highspot is a light body horse and he had eased up on its work to allow him to recover from races and elected to run the horse in the shorter distance race as compared to the 1510 metre race previously. Jockey A Calder explained that shortly after the start he was disadvantaged for a short distance when his mount got its head up and he became unbalanced. 10 Highspot then got further back in the field than anticipated. The Stewards noted their explanations.
11 Special Unique (K K Lai) –Resaddled behind the barriers. Was slow into stride. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
