Race Report

RACE-3 THE DUISBURG RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1200 METRES (35)

5 Snowball (Apprentice S Meneanen) -From about the 500 metres to the home turn shifted out and made the home turn wide. Apprentice S Meneanen was warned not to cover unnecessary ground in future.
6 Silver Baby (R Maia) - Performed below market expectations. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Jockey R Maia when questioned stated that he was instructed to have a good jump, to race forward in 2nd or 3rd position which he was able to do. However when placed under pressure in the straight his mount failed to respond and weakened in the straight. Trainer K M Chin confirmed the instructions and could offer no real explanation for the performance tonight. He added that the gelding had pleased in the lead up to the race and had barrier trialled well on two separate occasion prior to the event. He said he was expecting a forward showing and was disappointed with the gelding’s performance tonight. Trainer K M Chin was informed that he would be required to present 6 Silver Baby to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination to include an endoscopic examination on Saturday, 28th October 2017. In addition, they were informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
9 Cheerful Fish (Apprentice K Leung) -Jumped with its head up, was slow to begin and lost
ground. Apprentice K Leung said that his mount was a little restless and when the start was
effected, it had jumped with its head up causing him to lose his balance and fall back into the
saddle. As a result his mount lost ground. The Stewards noted his explanation but informed
Apprentice K Leung that he would be expected to make a better effort at the start than he did on
this occasion.
10 Devonport (Y M Choi) -Over the final 130 metres shifted ground outwards under pressure. Jockey Y M Choi was warned that he would be expected to straighten his mounts when they shift ground in future.
