Race Report

RACE-6 THE NEWCASTLE RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (108)
1 Fortune Master (K K Lai) -Was slow to muster speed in the early stages.
2 One Belt One Road (W L Ho) -At the 1300 metres bumped with 6 Master Of Cheers.
4 Fifty Flags (M Nunes) - At the 150 metres the rider accidentally knocked the whip of the rider of 13 Vancouver Jaguar.
6 Master Of Cheers (L Corrales) -At the 1300 metres bumped with 2 One Belt One Road.
9 Lucky And Wealthy (H Lam) -At the 1100 metres steadied off the heels of 10 Wonderful Story, when that horse was eased.
10 Wonderful Story (R Maia) - At the 1100 metres was eased when racing near the heels of 14 Premier Choice, resulting in 9 Lucky And Wealthy having to be steadied. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. When questioned Trainer J Lau said that he had instructed Jockey R Maia to get a good jump and to be in a mid field position as he anticipated that the race would be a fast run race and to do his best to win or obtain a place in the race. He said that in the middle stages he observed that 10 Wonderful Story had lost a favourable position in the race but then had gone on to run on well in the straight. He said that Jockey Maia explained to him after the race that his mount had been reluctant to race between runners in the middle stages and had dropped the bit. Trainer Lau informed the Stewards that it was his intentions to experiment with the use of blinkers in training and possibly for racing. He added that both him and the owner had supported the horse today. Jockey R Maia confirmed the instructions and stated that in his opinion, if his mount had not lost its favourable position in the middle stages he believed he would have been in a position of winning the race.
12 Double Hill Spirit (C F Chan) -Slow to muster speed in the early stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
13 Vancouver Jaguar (M Wepner) -Slow to muster speed in the early stages. At the 150 metres , rider had his whip accidentally knocked out of his hands by the rider 4 Fifty Flags.
14 Premier Choice (M Belli) -Over raced in the early and middle stages.
