Race Report

RACE-5 THE WHAKATANE RATING 30-0 (CLASS 6) 1500 METRES (71)

1 St Trump (W Smith) -Shortly after the start was crowded between 9 Taolu Expert and 8 Impeccable Genius, both which shifted ground. Checked approaching the 200 metres.
2 Highspot (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Raced wide rounding the first turn.
4 Zhuhai Star (K K Lai) -When entering the home straight was inconvenienced by 13 So Happy which was inclined to shift in and away from 6 Special Steel. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Easy Thai (L Corrales) -Was slow to begin. On entering the home straight was unable to establish clear running until passing the 200 metres.
6 Special Steel (H Lam) - Checked approaching the 200 metres.
7 Happy Encore (M Wepner) -Was slow to begin. Near the 1200 metres had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 11 Go Go Fish.
9 Taolu Expert (R Maia) -Was held up rounding the home turn and was unable to establish clear running until near the 300 metres.
10 River Double (Y M Choi) -Was slow to begin. On entering the home straight was unable to established a clear running until leaving the 200 metres.
12 My Fortune Star (F Henrique) -Was slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the reason 6 Special Steel (H Lam) and 1 St Trump (W Smith) were checked approaching the 200 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockeys H Lam, W Smith, J Pescuiso the rider of 3 Lucky Hugo and W L Ho the rider of 8 Impeccable Genius. Jockey J Pescuiso pleaded to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approaching the 200 metres when riding 3 Lucky Hugo along, he permitted his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of 6 Special Steel which had to be checked and was taken out onto to 1 St Trump which also had to be checked. Jockey J Pescuiso’s license to ride in races was suspended for 1 race day, covering the meeting of Saturday, 8 December 2018. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his good record, the degree of interference and the mitigating factors. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
