Race Report

RACE-4 THE SANTA CLAUS RATING 70+ (CLASS 1&2) 1510 METRES (100)

1 Obrigado Mais (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Leaving the 1400 metres buffeted with 12 Mujaan on a number of occasions.
2 Kelowna Star (W L Ho) -Near the 1400 metres had to be checked. Rounding the home turn had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 1 Obrigado Mais. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Wichita Linesman (W Smith) -Was eased over the concluding stages when awkwardly placed on the heels of 12 Mujaan which shifted in under pressure.
7 Bring Me Speed (A Aucharuz) - A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Oriental Profit (O Chavez) -Raced wide without cover for the majority of the race. Near the 50 metres was brushed by 3 The Whirlwind.
9 Ojala (J Pescuiso) -Was slow to begin. Raced fiercely in the early stages. Near the 1400 metres had to be steadied. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
10 Grand Double Win (S Nakano) -Was slow to begin.
11 River Treasure (M Wepner) -Rider reported that his mount had a tendency to hang out throughout the race.
12 Mujaan (Apprentice T See) -Proved difficult to load and delayed the start. Trainer W H Tse was informed that 12 Mujaan will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial in relation to its barrier manners. Buffeted with 1 Obrigado Mais on a number of occasions leaving the 1400 metres.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the reason 2 Kelowna Star (W L Ho) was checked and 9 Ojala (J Pescuiso) was steadied near the 1400 metres. Evidence was taken from Jockeys W L Ho, rider of 2 Kelowna Star, J Pescuiso, rider of 9 Ojala and Apprentice Jockey C L Cheung, the rider of 1 Obrigado Mais. Jockey J Pescuiso pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 1400 metres, he failed to make sufficient effort to prevent 9 Ojala from shifting in resulting in 9 Ojala improving into a position to the inside of 1 Obrigado Mais where there was insufficient room resulting in 2 Kelowna Star having to be checked and a short distance later 9 Ojala also had to steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 1 Obrigado Mais. Jockey J Pescuiso’s license to ride in races was suspended for 1 race day, covering the meeting of Sunday, 13 January 2019. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his riding record, the racing manners of 9 Ojala at the point of the incident and his guilty plea. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
