Race Report

RACE-4 THE KWANGSI RATING 70-50 (CLASS 2&3) 1510 METRES (124)

2 God Get People (F Henrique) -Was slow to begin. Raced fiercely in the early stages.
3 Rocket Along (O Chavez) -Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.
4 Military Super (R Maia) -Leaving the 1200 metres clipped the heels of 3 Rocket Along and was checked.
7 Off The Bench (K Leung) -Was slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
“Correct Weight” was delayed to allow Jockey R Maia the rider of 4 Military Super, 2nd placegetter to review the official replay of the race to see if he had sufficient grounds to lodge an objection against 3 Rocket Along (O Chavez) being declared the winner. Following a review of the replays, Jockey R Maia did not proceed with the objection and “Correct Weight” was declared.

At a subsequent Stewards inquiry, evidence was taken from Jockeys W L Ho the rider of 1 Happiness Rose, O Chavez the rider of 3 Rocket Along and Jockey R Maia the rider of 4 Military Super. It was established that leaving the 1200 metres when 6 River Triple (Apprentice C L Cheung) crossed to obtain the lead, the tempo of the race slowed slightly. This resulted in 1 Happiness Rose which was following racing fiercely for short distance and shifted out slightly resulting in 3 Rocket Along which was also racing fiercely being taken outwards, resulting in 4 Military Super which had improved quickly to the outside of 3 Rocket Along, clipping the heels of 3 Rocket Along and had to be checked. After considering all of the circumstances and in particular the tempo of the race and the racing manners of all horses at the point of the incident, the Stewards could not fully portion blame to anyone rider and no further action was taken other than to advise all riders to exercise more care.
