Race Report

RACE-5 THE HUPEI RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (131)

2 Techfaith Warrior (W Smith) -Steadied near the 1300 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
3 Autumn Cloud (R Maia) -Jumped awkwardly. Near the 1300 metres had to be checked away from the heels of 7 Thunder Bear which shifted in. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 900 metres when continuing to over race was allowed to stride forward wider on the track. Bumped with 4 Georgian Ease on entering the home straight. Over the concluding stages was eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 8 Winning Express which was inclined to shift out and away from 1 Bring Me Glory which shifted out and away from 11 Pearl Win Win. After considering all the circumstances the Stewards took no further action other than to advise all riders to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
4 Georgian Ease (F Henrique) -Bumped with 3 Autumn Cloud on entering the home straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Bada Baby (O Chavez) -Became cast in the barriers. Acting on veterinary grounds, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of 6 Bada Baby at 4:23 pm as it was lame in the left hind leg. Trainer K S Wong was informed that the gelding will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that a veterinary certificate is produced and until it has performed in an official Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
10 Beauty Princess (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Raced wide rounding the home turn.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1300 metres whereby 3 Autumn Cloud (R Maia) had to be checked and 2 Techfaith Warrior (W Smith) was steadied. Evidence was taken from Jockeys W Smith the rider of 2 Techfaith Warrior, R Maia the rider of 3 Autumn Cloud and S Nakano the rider of 7 Thunder Bear. Jockey S Nakano the rider of 7 Thunder Bear pleaded guilty to charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 1300 metres he allowed 7 Thunder Bear to shifted in sharply when insufficiently clear of 3 Autumn Cloud which had to be checked, got its head up, shifted in and tightened the running of 2 Techfaith Warrior which had to be steadied. Jockey S Nakano’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 1 racemeeting covering the meeting of 3 February 2019. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
