Race Report

RACE-1 THE ASHLEY RATING 55-0 (CLASS 4,5&6) 1050 METRES (139)

2 Darling Ten (O Chavez) -Was hampered shortly after the start by 5 Star Of Yiu Sun which shifted out. Near the 700 metres raced fiercely and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 5 Star Of Yiu Sun which shifted in when Jockey K Leung was attempting to regain the use of his left stirrup iron. After considering all the circumstances, the Stewards took no further action. Leaving the 600 metres was inclined to hang out until entering the home straight.
3 Oriental Reign (R Maia) -Was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
4 Heng Feng Star (L Corrales) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Star Of Yiu Sun (K Leung) -Reared extremely high on jumping away resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced in the saddle and losing the use of his left stirrup iron which he was able to regain nearing the 700 metres. Shifted out shortly after the start and hampered 2 Darling Ten. Raced greenly throughout the race. Trainer C W Choi was informed that in view of the unsatisfactory barrier manners of 5 Star Of Yiu Sun, it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
7 Pearl Delight (H Lam) -Was inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the Enquiry sign was semaphored to allow the Stewards to view the official patrol film of the start to ascertain whether all runners had been afforded a fair start. It was established as the gates opened 5 Star Of Yiu Sun (K Leung) reared extremely high giving the impression it had gained an unfair advantage. On the evidence available, the Stewards were satisfied that all barrier gates had opened simultaneously and all runners had been afforded a fair start. Correct weight was then declared.
