RACE-2 THE SHEFFIELD RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1050 METRES (140)
1 Capital Protector (R Maia) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Grateful Favors (F Henrique) -Bumped with 3 Sportsmanship on jumping away.
3 Sportsmanship (B Yamzon) -Bumped with 2 Grateful Favors on jumping away. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Diamond Kid (K K Lai) -Raced wide without cover throughout. The Stewards questioned Jockey K K Lai with regards to his ride in the early stages of the race where after beginning well and establishing a margin over the remainder of the field, his mount eventually settled in a three wide position without cover leaving the 800 metres. Jockey K K Lai stated that he was instructed to try get a good jump and to have the gelding settle in either 2nd or 3rd position if possible. He added after beginning well his mount began to travel strongly, and to try to comply with his instructions, he attempted to settle his mount and allow 1 Capital Protector, which was racing to his inside, to improve to the lead which would have afforded him the opportunity to race outside of that runner in 2nd position. He added that as 1 Capital Protector improved to his inside, 5 Mongolian Warrior also improved quickly with that runner and as he wasn’t sufficiently clear to shift inwards, he was caught racing in a three wide position without cover leaving the 800 metres. He further added that although he had not anticipated to have been caught racing three wide without cover, he was content on maintaining that position as in his opinion, recently it had not been an unfavorable position to have on the sand surface. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards determined that although they considered Jockey K K Lai to have erred in not shifting to a position closer to the running rail when there was an opportunity to do so a short distance after the start, his decision in the circumstances of this race was considered not so unreasonable as to be culpable and elected not to take any action against him. However, Jockey K K Lai was cautioned that at all times, he should ride with initiative and respond to the circumstances that change or unfolded during the running of a race.
6 Grexit (M Nunes) -Jumped awkwardly.
7 Go Go Mission (H Lam) -Near the 700 metres had to be eased when awkwardly placed on the heels of 4 Diamond Kid which was taken out by 5 Mongolian Warrior which in turn was taken out by 1 Capital Protector which after changing lead legs shifted out slightly. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards took no further action.
