Race Report

RACE-6 THE SUNDERLAND RATING 40-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1350 METRES (144)

4 Algonquin Park (K Leung) -Bumped by 6 Lucky Hugo on jumping away. The Stewards questioned Jockey K Leung regarding his riding of the gelding over the final 500 metres. Jockey K Leung stated that leaving the 500 metres due to racing in the kick back his visor was covered in a significant amount of sand resulting in him having extremely poor visibility. He added leaving the 400 metres he removed his visor to enhance his visibility and on entering the home straight had to shift his mount to the outside of 8 Hugo And Barry which had shifted out to improve. He added he then attempted to take a run between 6 Lucky Hugo and 1 Tous Sweet, however was disappointed for that run when 6 Lucky Hugo shifted out slightly near the 250 metres. He stated a short distance later he was again disappointed for a run between 6 Lucky Hugo and 1 Tous Sweet when 1 Tous Sweet commenced to shift in under pressure resulting in 4 Algonquin Park being held up and unable to establish clear running until leaving the 100 metres. He further stated that once able to establish clear running 4 Algonquin Park finished the race off strongly. After considering all of the evidence including the review of the official patrol films the Stewards noted Jockey K Leung’s explanation however reminded him of his obligation to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query.
5 Prosperity Star (Y M Choi) -Bumped by 4 Algonquin Park on jumping away. Raced wide rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
6 Lucky Hugo (M Nunes) - Jumped awkwardly and shifted out bumping 4 Algonquin Park which in turn shifted out and bumped 5 Prosperity Star. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Hugo And Barry (O Chavez) -Was slow to begin.
