Race Report

RACE-3 THE BORDEAUX RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1510 METRES (184)

1 Eastern Paradise (S Nakano) -Bumped with 5 Mujaan on jumping away. Rounding the home turn was brushed by 4 Hostwin Meraki which shifted out around the heels of 3 Rocket Along to improve.
4 Hostwin Meraki (W L Ho) -Rounding the home turn shifted out around the heels of 3 Rocket Along to improve and brushed 1 Eastern Paradise.
5 Mujaan (R Maia) -Bumped with 1 Eastern Paradise on jumping away. Raced wide without cover leaving the 700 metres. When questioned regarding the performance of 5 Mujaan, Jockey R Maia explained that due to the fast tempo in the early stages he had settled further back than he had anticipated and his mount was not traveling comfortably which he contributed to the gelding having to race in the kickback. He added racing down the back straight leaving the 800 metres, he shifted 5 Mujaan to the outside of runners so as not to race in the kickback and improve his position, however despite his efforts to get his mount to change its lead leg, the gelding was not comfortable and did not respond. He further added despite his further urgings his mount did not respond and in the home straight when under pressure proved extremely disappointing. A post race swab sample was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer W H Tse was informed to present 5 Mujaan to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Saturday, 16 March 2019.
The Stewards also questioned Jockey R Maia with regards to his actions in the saddle between the 800 metres and the 700 metres. Jockey R Maia explained that after shifting to a position outside of runners he attempted to coax his mount to change its lead leg, however the gelding did not respond to his initial attempt. He added he again attempted on a number of occasions to coax his mount to change its lead leg, this time using more force, however his mount did not respond until leaving the 700 metres were the horses entered the turn. After considering Jockey R Maia’s explanation and viewing the patrols films, the Stewards informed Jockey R Maia that whilst the Stewards had accepted his explanation on this occasion, he is to ensure that he rides all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query in similar occasions in future.
7 Greatest Prodigy (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Jumped away awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
