Race Report

RACE-2 THE CLEVELAND RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1350 METRES (201)

1 Gem Steed (B Yamzon) -Raced fiercely in the middle stages.
3 Master Starkiller (L Corrales) -Was steadied shortly after the start.
4 Grateful Favors (W Smith) -Leaving the 800 metres brushed with 8 Bada Baby.
5 Mochi Mochi (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Hung in abruptly shortly after the start despite the efforts of its rider.
6 Grexit (K Leung) -Was checked shortly after the start.
8 Bada Baby (F Henrique) -Raced wide without cover throughout. Leaving the 800 metres was brushed by 4 Grateful Favors.
9 River Kid (K K Lai) -Jump away awkwardly. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that due to the poor performance of 9 River Kid, it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales the rider of 3 Master Starkiller (3rd placed getter) against 5 Mochi Mochi (Apprentice C L Cheung), 2nd placed getter for alleging interference shortly after the start. Evidence was taken from Jockey L Corrales, in the presence of Mr. W H Tse the trainer of 3 Master Starkiller and Apprentice C L Cheung in the presence of Mr. K M Chin the trainer of 5 Mochi Mochi. After considering all of the evidence and reviewing the patrol films, it was established that on jumping away 1 Gem Steed (B Yamzon) shifted out slightly taking 6 Grexit (K Leung) outwards onto 3 Master Starkiller and at the same time 5 Mochi Mochi hung in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider taking 8 Bada Baby (F Henrique) in onto 3 Master Starkiller, resulting in 3 Master Starkiller being steadied and 6 Grexit being checked. As the Stewards could not be fully satisfied that the interference suffered to 3 Master Starkiller was solely caused by 5 Mochi Mochi, the objection was dismissed and correct weight declared on the Judge’s placings.

At a subsequent inquiry, the Stewards could not portion blame to any one rider and took no further action other than to inform Trainer K M Chin that due to racing manners of 5 Mochi Mochi shortly after the start, it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it performs satisfactorily in an official Barrier Trial.
