Race Report

RACE-1 THE NOVA IGUACU (DIV.2) RATING 40-0 (CLASS 5&6) 1500 METRES (230)

1 Fortune Flyer (R Maia) -Was marginally slow to begin.
2 Moral Integrity (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Brushed with 3 Algonquin Park on jumping away. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages.
3 Algonquin Park (L Corrales) -Brushed with 2 Moral Integrity on jumping away.
4 Fantastic Friends (O Chavez) -Jumped away awkwardly. Was inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
5 Bellomaster (M Wepner) - Was inspected behind the barriers by the Veterinary Surgeon at the request of the rider. Acting on veterinary advice, that the gelding was lame in right foreleg, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1:56pm. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that 5 Bellomaster will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that a veterinary certificate is produced.
6 Special Steel (W Smith) -Near the 1400 metres was steadied when tightened for room by 7 Full Of Luck which was taken in by 3 Algonquin Park which in turn was taken in by 2 Moral Integrity which had a tendency to hang in despite the efforts of its rider. After considering all the circumstances in particular the racing manners of 2 Moral Integrity at the point of the incident, the Stewards took no further action other than to severely reprimand apprentice C L Cheung that although his mount was inclined to hang in despite marking some efforts, the Stewards were of the opinion he could have taken more corrective measure earlier than he did on this occasion. Raced fiercely for some distance thereafter and near the 1250 metres when continuing to race fiercely had to be eased off the heels of 8 Taolu Expert when attempting to allow that runner to cross. Rider reported that he had anticipated obtaining a position on the speed behind the leaders however due to the interference near the 1400 metres he settled further back and then he had anticipated.
8 Taolu Expert (W L Ho) -Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight and leaving the 200 metres had to be shifted out around the heels of 7 Full Of Luck. 8 Taolu Expert then had some difficulties obtaining clear running until leaving the 50 metres.
