Race Report

RACE-1 THE ZHENGZHOU RATING MAIDEN 1200 METRES (260)

1 Superb Shooter (R Maia) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Rivalry (W Smith) -Over the concluding stages was brushed by 5 Wittymaster on a number of occasions. Jockey K K Lai the rider of 5 Wittymaster was issued with a severe reprimand for permitting his mount to shift out under pressure whilst riding it along and was advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mounts.
3 Grand Warrior (O Chavez) -When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of the gelding tonight, Trainer J Lau stated that the significant drop in class of tonight’s race, the limited number of runners in the field and as well as the extremely heavy track conditions as compared to its race on 13 April 2019 in similar conditions all contributed to the gelding’s improved performance. The Stewards noted his explanation.
4 Win Win Hooray (L Corrales) -Rider reported that his mount traveled well in the run, however when placed under pressure in the home straight was wayward in its action and in his opinion failed to handle tonight’s track conditions. He added that he reported to Trainer C W Choi that the gelding may benefit with the addition of blinkers and racing on a good track or alternatively racing back on the sand. The Stewards noted his explanation.
5 Wittymaster (K K Lai) -Jumped away awkwardly. Leaving the 200 metres was inclined to shift out under pressure and continued to shift out under pressure brushing with 2 Rivalry on a number of occasion over the concluding stages.
7 Luen On Prestige (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Stood flat footed and lost ground at the start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of race, the “Enquiry Sign” was semaphored to allow the Stewards to view the official patrol film of the home straight to ascertain whether 2 Rivalry (W Smith) which was placed 3rd by the Judge had grounds for an objection against 5 Wittymaster (K K Lai) which was placed 2nd. After considering all of the circumstances and as Jockey Smith did not wish to lodge an objection, the Stewards were satisfied that there was insufficient grounds for an objection and declared correct weight on the Judge’s placings.
