7 King Of Champions (H Lam) -Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in. Shortly after the start shifted out had to be checked off the heels of 8 Lucky Hugo which shifted in at the same time. After considering all of the circumstances the Stewards took no further action. The Stewards questioned Jockey H Lam regarding his riding of 7 King Of Champions, in particular his ride from the 500 metres. Jockey H Lam stated that he was instructed by Trainer P Leyshan that if the colt jumps well, to try and put it in front or alternatively try and find a position on the rail. He added that after jumping away awkwardly and losing ground, he obtained a position at the rear of the field on the rail, however his mount, which is a 2 year old colt having its first start, raced greenly, was unbalanced and was wayward in its action throughout. He added leaving the 500 metres, he rode his mount along hands and heels only in an attempt to keep 7 King Of Champions balanced and in the home straight had some difficulty in obtaining clear running in the early stages. He added in the home straight 7 King Of Champions continued to race greenly and as a result he continued to ride his mount hands and heels where the colt finished the race off fairly under pressure. He further added that after the race he advised Trainer P Leyshan that 7 King Of Champions had raced greenly throughout and may need more time to mature. Trainer P Leyshan confirmed the instructions and stated he was satisfied with the ride of Jockey H Lam as it was his observation that 7 King Of Champions appeared to race greenly and was wayward in its action during the race. After considering all the circumstances the Stewards noted both of their explanations, however reminded Jockey H Lam of his obligation to ride all his mounts in such a manner as to leave no room for query in future.
8 Lucky Hugo (K Mizuno) -Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. Was held up rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight was disappointed for a run between 3 Dream Achiever and 10 Algonquin Park. Was then able establish clear running near the 250 metres.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race the Stewards heard an objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales the rider of 3 Dream Achiever, 2nd placegetter against 6 Go Go Mission (Y M Choi) being declared the winner for alleging interference leaving the 1100 metres. After reviewing the patrol films and considering all the evidence tendered by Jockeys L Corrales and Y M Choi and Mr. K M Chin the trainer of 3 Dream Achiever and Mr. Pat Lee trainer of 6 Go Go Mission, it was established that leaving the 1100 metres 6 Go Go Mission shifted in when insufficiently clear of 3 Dream Achiever which was tightened for room and had to be steadied. After considering all of the evidence, in particular the point of the race at which the interference occurred, the interference suffered by 3 Dream Achiever and the beaten margin of three quarters of a length, the Stewards could not be fully satisfied that the interference suffered by 3 Dream Achiever warranted a reversal of placings and dismissed the objection. Correct weight was declared on the Judge’s placings.
At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey Y M Choi pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the 1100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 3 Dream Achiever which was tightened for room and had to be steadied. Jockey Y M Choi’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 1 raceday covering the meeting of 12 July 2019 and in addition he was fined the sum of HKD5,000 in lieu of one additional racemeeeting. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, the degree of interference and his riding record. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
