Race Report

RACE-6 THE SANDOWN RATING 60-40 (CLASS 3&4) 1500 METRES (72)

1 Chromium Alloy (H Lam) -Bumped on jumping away by 4 Magnapegasus which was taken in by 6 Wittymaster which shifted in slightly.
2 Fortune Flyer (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Near the 1250 metres had to be steadied when tightened for room between 12 Franklin Lane which shifted in slightly and 10 Ashkari which when awkwardly placed on the heels of 9 Golden Toruk shifted out slightly. As the Stewards were satisfied that a charge of careless riding could not be laid against either rider or both riders, the Stewards took no further action other than to issue Jockeys S Nakano (12 Franklin Lane) and S Ladjadj (10 Ashkari) a severe reprimand and advised them they would be expected to be clear of other runners all times when shifting ground in future. In the early stages of the home straight was disappointed for a run between 10 Ashkari and 14 Northern Legend both of which shifted ground.

3 Fortune Generation (L Corrales) -Raced fiercely in the early stages.
4 Magnapegasus (C F Chan) -Rider reported that in the early stages of the race his mount did not travel comfortably and settled further back than he had anticipated and leaving the 1000 metres he used the whip on a number of occasions in an attempt to get the gelding to travel. He added that he had to continually ride his mount throughout and in the early stages of the home straight he rode his mount hands and heels until near the 200 metres where he used the whip, however 4 Magnapegasus was only one paced to the finish where he eased it down over the concluding stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
5 Superlative Choice (K H Yu) -Leaving the 400 metres was checked and shifted out bumping 6 Wittymaster on a number of occasions. In the early stages of the home straight was bumped by 13 Wealthy Emperor which shifted in when laying in under pressure.
6 Wittymaster (R Maia) -Leaving the 400 metres was steadied.
8 Georgian Ease (O Chavez) -Leaving the 400 metres blundered. Near the 200 metres when tiring shifted out and away from 9 Golden Toruk which shifted out to improve. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
9 Golden Toruk (T Appie) -Jockey T Appie was issued a fine of HKD1000 for his celebratory gesture prior to the winning post.
10 Ashkari (S Ladjadj) -Was slow to begin. In the early stages of the home straight was disappointed for a run between 6 Wittymaster and 5 Superlative Choice which was taken in by 13 Wealthy Emperor. Was then unable to establish clear running until near the 200 metres. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
13 Wealthy Emperor (B Yamzon) -Leaving the 400 metres was bumped by 5 Superlative Choice on a number of occasions.
14 Northern Legend (D Barros) -Raced wide without cover throughout. The Stewards intend to question Jockey D Barros with regards to his riding in the early stages, in particular the reasons leaving the 1200 metres, he failed to take up a position behind 13 Wealthy Emperor which would have enabled 14 Northern Legend to race in a position with cover.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident leaving the 400 metres. Evidence was taken from the riders of 13 Wealthy Emperor (B Yamzon), 14 Northern Legend (D Barros), 5 Superlative Choice (K H Yu) and 6 Wittymaster (R Maia). It was established that leaving the 400 metres 8 Georgian Ease blundered resulting in 6 Wittymaster which was following having to be steadied and lost ground. 5 Superlative Choice which was following 6 Wittymaster quickly improved onto the heels of that runner and had to be checked and shifted out making heavy contact with 13 Wealthy Emperor on a number of occasions which in turn shifted out hampering 14 Northern Legend. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards could not portion blame to anyone rider and took no further action other than to advise all riders to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future.
