Race Report

RACE-1 THE HO MAN TIN RATING 45-25 (CLASS 4&5) 1200 METRES (187)

1 Sweet Bumhan (F Henrique) -Rider reported that in his opinion his mount failed to handle today’s yielding to soft track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
2 Kelvin's Choice (Apprentice C L Cheung) -On entering the home straight had a tendency to shift out under pressure.
3 Master Of Mars (B Yamzon) -Raced wide without cover throughout. Rider reported that in his opinion his mount failed to handle today’s yielding to soft track conditions.
4 Star Of City Gold (K H Yu) -Bumped by 9 The Prime Side on jumping away and a short distance later bumped with 10 Luen On Success. Approaching the 200 metres was disappointed for a run to the inside of 10 Luen On Success and as a result had to be shifted out around that runner’s heels to obtain clear running.
5 The Prime Fortune (H Lam) -In the early stages of the home straight was held up and leaving the 300 metres was shifted out around the heels of 2 Kelvin's Choice to obtain clear running. Thereafter had a tendency to shift out under pressure. The Stewards questioned Jockey H Lam regarding his riding in the early stages of the home straight where he elected not to take arun between 2 Kelvin's Choice and 3 Master Of Mars and as a result 5 The Prime Fortune was held up for some distance thereafter. Jockey Lam stated that he won on 5 The Prime Fortune two starts back on 4 January 2020 and was instructed to ride the gelding in a similar manner and to get to the outside in the home straight. He added 5 The Prime Fortune is a lazy gelding and from the 500 metres he commenced to place it under pressure and rounding the home turn to comply with his instructions, he made the decision to look for clearing running between 2 Kelvin's Choice and 7 Blue Glory. He added on entering the home straight, a run appeared between 2 Kelvin's Choice and 3 Master Of Mars, however as 3 Master Of Mars was bumping with another runner to its inside, he was reluctant to take that run as he was unsure, if that run would remain open. He added he persisted to secure clear running to the outside of 2 Kelvin's Choice, however had to wait for 7 Blue Glory to yield ground which he was then able to secure clear running near the 300 metres where 5 The Prime Fortune then finished the race off strongly. After considering all of the circumstances, the Stewards noted his explanation.
6 Yings Fans (K K Lai) -Near the 400 metres was held up and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 8 Hostwin Euphoria. A short distance later shifted out around the heels of 8 Hostwin Euphoria to improve and in doing so brushed 3 Master Of Mars.
7 Blue Glory (W H Lao) -Shortly after the start was tightened for room between 5 The Prime Fortune and 3 Master Of Mars which was taken out by 8 Hostwin Euphoria which after blundering shifted out. Raced fiercely in the early and middle stages. Leaving the 500 metres was forced wider on the track when 2 Kelvin's Choice shifted out to improve. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Hostwin Euphoria (J B Hamel) -Blundered shortly after the start.
9 The Prime Side (L Corrales) -On jumping away shifted out and bumped 4 Star Of City Gold. A short distance later was then bumped by 4 Star Of City Gold which after bumping with 10 Luen On Success shifted back in.
10 Luen On Success (M Tanaka) -Shortly after the start bumped with 4 Star Of City Gold. Near the 700 metres was bumped by 1 Sweet Bumhan which shifted in slightly. A post race swab sampled was taken for analysis. A post veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
11 For Community (D Barros) -Jumped away awkwardly.
12 Gem General (S Ladjadj) - Jumped away awkwardly and was then tightened for room between 1 Sweet Bumhan and 10 Luen On Success, both of which shifted ground. Jockey S Ladjadj was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out fully to the finish of the race. In determining not to issue a more severe penalty the Stewards were satisfied that it had no bearing on the overall placings of the race. Jockey S Ladjadj was further reminded of his obligations to always ride his mounts in a manner which leave no room for query.
