Race Report
RACE-2 THE CLEVELAND RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (213)

Diamond Glory (D Barros) -Raced greenly in the early stages. Near the 1250 metres had to be eased away from the heels of 2 Bottom Up. The Stewards advised Jockey W L Ho the rider of 2 Bottom Up to exercise more care in similar circumstances in future. Jockey D Barros the rider of 1 Diamond Glory was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out fully to the finish. In determining not to issue a more severe penalty, the Stewards took into account his good riding record in relation to breaches of this rule.
Bottom Up (W L Ho) -Raced in restricted room on jumping away between 9 Delighted Solution and 1 Diamond Glory which hung out for a short distance. Raced fiercely in the middle stages. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
Star Of Phoenix (H Lam) -Raced wide without cover until near the 900 metres.
Ready Fire (B Yamzon) -Was slow into stride. Rounding the home turn raced in restricted room between 6 Lucky Winston which shifted out slightly and 2 Bottom Up which shifted in slightly when weakening.
Royal Master (L Corrales) -Was slow to begin. On entering the home straight had a tendency to lay in for a short distance.
Lucky Winston (S Nakano) -Had a tendency to shift out under pressure in the home straight.
Ronson (M Tanaka) -Was slow to begin. Near the 500 metres laid out and had to be eased away from the heels of 5 Royal Master which shifted out to improve.
Delighted Solution (K H Yu) -Was fractious in the barriers, was then inspected by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race. Trainer M C Tam was informed that warning had been placed against the gelding for its barrier manners. A short distance after the start had to be steadied when tightened for room between 3 Star Of Phoenix which shifted in and 2 Bottom Up which was taken out by 1 Diamond Glory which had continued to hang out. Was then shifted across runners to obtain a position closer to the running rail. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer M C Tam was informed that he would be required to present 9 Delighted Solution to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 3 May 2020.
Number Zero (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Near the 750 metres raced up unto the heels of 12 Qipao Queen and had to be steadied. When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance of 10 Number Zero, Trainer K S Wong stated that the gelding was only having its second career start today and at its first start was drawn wide over an unsuitable distance of 1200 metres and had settled further back than anticipated. He added in his opinion 10 Number Zero was aided by the step up to 1500 metres of today’s race and with the benefit of a good draw, the gelding raced more prominently which he believes contributed to the improved performance today. The Stewards noted his explanation.
