Race Report

RACE-3 THE BUFFALO RATING 85-60 (CLASS 2) 1510 METRES (226)

1 Smart Win (L Corrales) -Jockey L Corrales reported that his mount was having its first start at tonight’s distance and in the early stages he had to make use of his mount to maintain the lead position. He added his mount traveled fairly until the 500 metres and when pressured by other runners failed to respond to his riding and was making abnormal respiratory noises. In the home straight as he had concerns with the welfare of his mount and the fact that it was not responding to his riding, he elected to ease 1 Smart Win out of the race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer C W Choi was informed that he would be required to present 1 Smart Win to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Saturday, 16 May 2020. In addition, 1 Smart Win which was beaten in excess of 40 lengths will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
2 Tremendous Wins (J B Hamel) -Leaving the 1500 metres hung out for some distance.
3 Tavezbac (F Henrique) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
4 Green Fortune (Y M Choi) -Rounding the home turn had to be eased when momentarily racing in restricted room between 8 Captain Fabulous and 3 Tavezbac, both of which shifted ground slightly. A post race veterinary examination at the request of the jockey revealed that 4 Green Fortune was lame in the left foreleg. Trainer C F Chan was informed that 4 Green Fortune will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that a veterinary certificate is produced.
5 Ojala (M Tanaka) -Jumped away awkwardly, shifted in and had to be eased away from the heels of 4 Green Fortune which shifted out. Leaving the 600 metres had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of 1 Smart Win which yielded ground slightly.
6 Stadium (S Ladjadj) -Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and bumped 8 Captain Fabulous. Leaving the 600 metres raced up onto the heels of 5 Ojala and had to be steadied outwards. A short distance later then had to be steadied away from the heels of 5 Ojala which shifted out.
7 Garlic And Chili (K H Yu) -Near the 600 metres when 1 Smart Win which was leading began to yield ground slightly, 5 Ojala raced up onto the heels of 1 Smart Win and had to be steadied. 6 Stadium which was following raced up on to the heels of 5 Ojala and was steadied outwards taking 2 Tremendous Wins which was improving into a tight run between 6 Stadium and 7 Garlic And Chili outwards, making contact with 7 Garlic And Chili which in turn was taken out slightly and had to be steadied away from the heels of 3 Tavezbac. A short distance later 5 Ojala then shifted out resulted in 6 Stadium having to be steadied. After considering all of the circumstances, in particular the pace of the race leading up to the point of the incident, the Stewards took no further action against any one rider and deemed it to be a racing incident. Nevertheless advised all riders to exercise more care in similar circumstances. A post race swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination revealed that 7 Garlic And Chili was lame in the right foreleg. Trainer S H Cheong was informed that 7 Garlic And Chili which was also beaten 40 lengths will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards and a veterinary certificate is produced.
8 Captain Fabulous (W H Lao) -Bumped by 6 Stadium which jumped awkwardly and shifted in at the start. Leaving the 900 metres was bumped by 4 Green Fortune which shifted in slightly.
