Race Report

RACE-2 THE SCUNTHORPE RATING 55-25 (CLASS 4) 1800 METRES (333)

1 Luen On Treasure (W L Ho) -Was resaddled behind the barriers.
2 Grand Double Win (L Corrales) -Was slow to begin.
3 Numberone Mingxuan (M Tanaka) -Leaving the 1400 metres raced fiercely on the heels of 4 Who Dat Singa for a short distance.
5 Off The Bench (D Barros) -Near the 200 metres was shifted in when awkwardly placed on the heels of 10 Tokai Shinsei.
6 Satono Eternal (T Appie) -Was slow to begin and was then eased away from the heels of 5 Off The Bench which shifted out slightly.
7 Broadus (F Henrique) -Reared on jumping away. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Star Of City Gold (Apprentice C L Cheung) -Leaving the 150 metres was inclined to shift out under pressure.
9 Hyshem (S Ladjadj) -Was held up rounding the home turn.
11 Nanhai One (W H Lao) -Leaving the 1400 metres raced fiercely and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of 1 Luen On Treasure. Then continued to race fiercely for some distance thereafter. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into the riding of 8 Star Of City Gold over the final 25 metres. Evidence was taken from Apprentice C L Cheung in the presence of his Master Trainer K M Chin. Apprentice C L Cheung the rider of 8 Star Of City Gold pleaded guilty to a charge under MJC Rule 14 (xvii)(a) for negligence, in that near the 25 metres he stopped riding for approximately three strides prior to the winning post. He was subsequently issued with a fine of HK$5,000. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account his guilty plea, his riding record, the point of the race where the incident took place and that all riders had been placed on notice to ensure that they ride all their mounts out to the finish of the race where possible. The Stewards were also satisfied that his actions did not affect the overall placings of the race. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
