RACE-3 2020 MAGIC MILLIONS GOLD COAST 2 YO'S IN TRAINING SALE STAKES RATING 55-30 (CLASS 4) 1500 METRES (45)
3 Tagmaster (D Barros) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Hostwin Euphoria (L Corrales) -Was checked leaving the 400 metres. Was inclined to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
5 Royal Good Friend (H Lam) -Rounding the first turn was taken wider on the track by 12 Ready Fire which was taken out by 10 Trophy Cabinet which when racing ungenerously shifted out.
6 Fortune Winner (C L Cheung) -Was resaddled behind the barriers. Approaching the 500 metres raced up onto the heels of 1 Benson and had to be steadied. Was held up rounding the home turn. Rider reported that rounding the home turn his mount felt unbalanced in its action and near the 300 metres when placed under pressure 6 Fortune Winner blundered and became unbalanced. He added that as a result of this, he was reluctant to apply the whip in a forehand manner and in an attempt to keep his mount balanced he rode the gelding hands and heels vigorously applying the whip down the left shoulder of 6 Fortune Winner which finished the race off well.
7 Georgian Ease (B Yamzon) -Leaving the 400 metres raced in restricted room and had to be checked. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality. Trainer P Leyshan was informed that he would be required to present 7 Georgian Ease to the Veterinary Hospital for a thorough veterinary examination on Sunday, 1 November 2020 and in addition, as the gelding was beaten in excess of 49 lengths, it will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
9 So Yummy (K H Yu) -Approaching the 900 metres when racing fiercely raced up onto the heels of 4 Hostwin Euphoria and had to be steadied. Near the 350 metres shifted out and bumped 3 Tagmaster.
10 Trophy Cabinet (J B Hamel) -Jumped away awkwardly. Shortly after the start had to be steadied when tightened for room between 2 Dutch Shell and 7 Georgian Ease, both of which shifted ground. Leaving the 1300 metres raced ungenerously and had to be steadied away from the heels of 11 Numberone Mingxuan which at the same time shifted. After taking into consideration the racing manners of 10 Trophy Cabinet, the Stewards took no further action, other than to advise Jockey S Ladjadj the rider of 11 Numberone Mingxuan to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.
11 Numberone Mingxuan (S Ladjadj) -Raced wide without cover throughout.
RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
Following the running of the race, the Stewards considered an objection lodged by Jockey L Corrales the rider of 4 Hostwin Euphoria, 2nd placed horse against 2 Dutch Shell ridden by Jockey W L Ho being declared the winner for alleging interference rounding the home turn. Evidence was taken from Jockey L Corrales and Mr. N Moore the trainer of 4 Hostwin Euphoria and Jockey W L Ho and Mr. I K Chang, Assistant Trainer representing Mr. Pat Lee the trainer of 2 Dutch Shell. After reviewing the patrol films and considering all of the evidence, it was established that leaving the 400 metres 4 Hostwin Euphoria after having established a run between 7 Georgian Ease and 2 Dutch Shell, had to be checked and in turn was taken in onto 7 Georgian Ease when 2 Dutch Shell shifted in when insufficiently clear. As a result 4 Hostwin Euphoria lost its rightful running. As the Stewards were satisfied that had the interference not taken place, 4 Hostwin Euphoria would have finished ahead of 2 Dutch Shell, therefore the objection was upheld and the Judge’s placings amended to read:
1st 4 Hostwin Euphoria (L Corrales)
2nd 2 Dutch Shell (W L Ho)
3rd 11 Numberone Mingxuan (S Ladjadj)
4th 8 Mountain Eagle (M Tanaka)
At a subsequent inquiry, Jockey W L Ho the rider of 2 Dutch Shell pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that leaving the 400 metres he permitted his mount shift in when insufficiently clear resulting in 4 Hostwin Euphoria having to be checked and was in turn taken in onto 7 Georgian Ease which also had to be checked, with both horses losing their rightful running. Jockey W L Ho’s license to ride in races was suspended for one racemeeting covering the meeting of Saturday, 5 December 2020. In arriving at penalty the Stewards took into account Jockey W L Ho’s guilty plea, his riding record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
