Race Report

RACE-5 THE PERTH RATING 55-25 (CLASS 4) 1800 METRES (116)

3 Modena Best (W L Ho) -Raced wide without cover from the 1100 metres. Was inclined to lay out from the 500 metres.
4 Money Link (C L Cheung) -Leaving the 300 metres was steadied inwards when disappointed for run between 10 Turquoise Square and 2 Luen On Treasur. A short distance later was then disappointed for a run between 10 Turquoise Square and 8 Tokai Shinsei which shifted out and away from 7 Superlative Choice which shifted out slightly when held up for clear running. As Stewards deemed these to be racing incidents no further action was taken.
5 Tagmaster (D Barros) -Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality, other than that the gelding had cast its left fore plate.
7 Superlative Choice (B Yamzon) -Jumped away awkwardly. On entering the home straight was held up and near the 250 metres was disappointed for a run between 1 Star Of City Gold and 6 Georgian Ease. Was then unable to obtain clear running until near the 150 metres.
9 Ronson (Y M Choi) -Brushed with 6 Georgian Ease on jumping away. Was checked approaching the winning post the first occasion. Near the 1300 metres was hampered by10 Turquoise Square which shifted out after making the crossing awkward.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into a racing incident approaching the winning post the first occasion where 9 Ronson was checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 10 Turquoise Square (W H Lao) and 9 Ronson (Y M Choi). Jockey W H Lao the rider of 10 Turquoise Square pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that approaching the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of 9 Ronson which had to be checked and lost its rightful running. Jockey W H Lao’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of two racemeetings covering the meetings of Friday, 26 February and Saturday, 27 February 2021. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey W H Lao’s guilty plea, his disciplinary record and the degree of the interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal.
