Race Report

RACE-1 THE NEW YORK DIV 2 RATING 45-20 (CLASS 4&5) 1500 METRES (118)

1 Diamond Stellar (B Yamzon) -A post race veterinary examination revealed that the gelding was severely lame in the right foreleg. Trainer Pat Lee was informed that 1 Diamond Stellar will not be permitted to race for 11 days and until such time that a veterinary certificate is produced and it has performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official Barrier Trial.
2 Royal Master (T Appie) -Checked near the 1250 metres.
3 Victory Supreme (W L Ho) -Near the 1400 metres was taken wider on the track by 1 Diamond Stellar which shifted out. Raced wide without cover from the 1000 metres. Rider reported near the 1000 metres when trailing 1 Diamond Stellar, the tempo of the race slowed, so he elected to shift out to improve his position. He added that when improving 1 Diamond Stellar also improved its position to his inside and as a result was unable to obtain a position closer to the running rail and was racing three wide without cover for the reminder of the race. The Stewards noted his explanation. A post race swab was taken for analysis. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
4 Wealthy Emperor (L Corrales) -When the tempo of the race slowed near the 750 metres raced ungenerously on the heels of 10 Qipao Queen and had to be steadied.
6 River Exquisite (C L Cheung) -Near the 1400 metres was taken wider on the track by 3 Victory Supreme which in turn was taken wider on the track by 1 Diamond Stellar which shifted out. Blundered leaving the 200 metres. Over the final 50 metres was held up when awkwardly placed on the heels of 3 Victory Supreme and was unable to be ridden out.
7 River Prosperity (K H Yu) -A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormality.
8 Luen On Prodigy (Y M Choi) -Was marginally slow to begin. Rounding the home turn was eased to avoid the heels of 5 Highspot which shifted out to improve. Jockey F Henrique the rider of 5 Highspot was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Was then obliged to shift out around the heels of 5 Highspot near the 250 metres to obtain clear running.
10 Qipao Queen (W H Lao) -Jumped away awkwardly.

RACING INCIDENT & INQUIRY:
The Stewards inquired into an incident near the 1250 metres where 2 Royal Master had to be checked. Evidence was taken from the riders of 2 Royal Master (T Appie), 4 Wealthy Emperor (L Corrales) and 3 Victory Supreme (W L Ho). Jockey W L Ho the rider of 3 Victory Supreme pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MJC Rule 132 (i) in that near the 1250 metres he permitted this mount to shift in thereby causing 4 Wealthy Emperor to be taken in onto 2 Royal Master which had to be checked and lost its rightfully running. Jockey W L Ho’s license to ride in races was suspended for one racemeeting, covering the meeting of Friday, 5 March 2021. In arriving at penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey W L Ho’s guilty plea, his disciplinary record and the degree of interference. He was advised of his Right of Appeal. The Stewards also issued Jockey W L Ho with a severe reprimand for the manner in which he conducted himself throughout the inquiry.
